Worth a Drive

From hearth to table, Midway Mercantile is all about fabulous food and good humor — just as the chef promises. Anything with Hawk and Sparrow bread is a must (trust me, it’s that good), and they’re also a great option for gluten-free diners. Good Tip: Gather around the hearth, order something bready, and settle in — this is comfort at its best.

Set against sweeping views of the Heber Valley, Back 40 is a favorite for good food, good drinks, and a true taste of local. Everything is sourced close to home — even the water, drawn from their own 200-ft artesian well. Good Tip: It’s always an uh-mazing experience here, especially with a big group.

Always a surprise find in an unassuming area, Little India brings bold, flavorful Indian food to Heber. Open for dinner (with takeout!), the dishes are generous, well-spiced, and consistently good.

Family-run and full of charm, Lola’s serves up artisan street food with serious flair — from their famous buttermilk fried chicken sandwich to a weekly chile relleno burrito locals wait for. The patio is casual and welcoming, perfect for a laid-back bite in Midway. Good Tip: I’m hooked on the protein bowl — the citrus dressing is so good.

If you’re craving diner comfort up near the Uintas, Mirror Lake Diner delivers. Think classic breakfast and lunch plates, friendly service, and a cozy down-to-earth feel — perfect for fueling up before or after a trip to the lake. Good Tip: Go early (diners fill up fast) and plan for a casual and satisfying meal—you deserve it after a morning on the road.

Called Freestyle Asian Cuisine. Just like freestyle skiing or mountain biking found in this mountain town, Shabu experiments with creative features to showcase new innovations and ideas. Kids love the Hot Rock Wagyu!

Dine in the restaurant for good steaks and superb service. Head to the Piano Bar for a less formal experience with the same menu that makes the restaurant famous, and this is also where the fun goes down late at night with friends. You can gather around, request a song, and keep the night going. Always a good time.

Tucked in the foothills of the Uintas, The Notch is an unassuming log cabin that feels like a hidden gem. It’s the perfect stop after a Mirror Lake Highway adventure — or just when you want to get off the beaten path and it’s so, so fun. Good Tip: Grab a seat on the big patio, soak in the vibe, and don’t be surprised if you suddenly want to buy a motorcycle.

I love everything at Sundance — fancy or casual, it’s always worth the trip. You’ll find places like the Foundry Grill with its legendary Sunday brunch (my favorite for celebrations!), the romantic Tree Room, the mountaintop Bearclaw Cabin, and casual spots like The Lookout with burgers, shakes, and sweeping views.
